Our Academy

Welcome to the Utica Academy for International Studies (UAIS) home on the web.  The Utica Academy will provide students an opportunity to engage in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.  This process is designed to help them develop into more capable learners and more confident citizens.  The UAIS mission is to enhance critical thinking skills, provide an international lens to complement national and local perspectives, facilitate a profound understanding of traditional liberal arts studies in a non-traditional environment, and assure that students develop both socially and academically during their Academy tenure.  Our obligation to our students is to create a socially and academically safe environment in which learners will be challenged and supported. 

Education, at best, is focused around the individual.  Each student in the Utica Academy for International Studies will be respected as unique learners.  As educators, we have a responsibility to provide our students the skills outlined in the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile and inherent to a well-rounded student capable of successfully completing post-secondary studies.  The UAIS learner will be driven by knowledge and inquiry.  A cultural learner, this student seeks value in the arts and sciences, and in all aspects of world of knowledge before them.  This learner recognizes their role in a global society as an engaged lifelong and multilingual learner.  Most importantly, the UAIS learner is committed to the highest standards of ethics, personally and academically.  As educators, every action we take, every collaborative lesson designed, every expectation set is designed with students in mind and the learner profile as a guide. 

The teachers and I promise the UAIS students nothing short of our complete commitment to their success.  We are excited to welcome you to this exciting college preparatory program offered by the Utica Community Schools.  The Academy will be challenging, and meeting that challenge will be our shared aspiration as students, parents, educators and as a community.  Through the implementation of a world class curriculum we will prepare our students to meet and exceed our expectations of excellence.  Aspire, prepare and achieve.  These three simple words embody the very spirit of this institution.
