Troop 156 Eagle Scout Ian McKinnon,16, in Shelby Township earned all of the 137 merit badges that Scouts can be awarded, making him one of the four Scouts in Michigan to complete this many available.

Merit badges are awarded in many different disciplines as the Scout illustrates advanced skills and knowledge in diverse activities, such as astronomy, civics, public speaking, woodworking, welding, aviation, medicine, first aid, overall fitness, technical climbing, swimming and life saving, boating, scuba diving, camping, backpacking, ecology and wilderness survival.

“There are only a handful of Scouts in the United States who have achieved this, and Ian most likely has the record for the most to date as the total possible was increased in the last year,” said Bob Berta, an adult leader of Troop 156. “Ian is an amazing young man who achieved his Eagle rank at a relatively young age and has achieved many additional achievements and honors since then.”
